Meet
Rene Godefroy...The
Author of
No Condition is Permanent
Every
now and then, someone comes along to light up our fire and help
us redirect our thinking from despair to hope; from lacking to abundance;
from complaining to living with an attitude of gratitude.
That
someone can come from anywhere on earth. The man you are about to
meet is such a person. The heart of his message is deeply rooted
in a faraway village.
His
personal story of struggle, grit and perseverance is proof that
No Condition is Permanent. The transformational journey that has
brought him this far has left footprints that reveal to us that
we can dare to try the impossible. And that we have yet to do all
we are capable of doing.
You may remember
seeing one of the commercials on your television with the starving
children in Africa or elsewhere around the world. Think of the starving
little boy you saw on that day.
He looked dismal.
He was starving, crying and surrounded by flies. You could count
every bone in his body. Those pictures tugged at your heart and
made you feel terrible. Do you remember them?
Well, that was
Rene Godefroy you saw on your television. No, he has never been
in one of those commercials. But yes, he was just as deprived and
lonely.
Born in a tiny,
isolated village on the island of Haiti, Rene was an impoverished
child tormented by extended illness. Abandoned by his father and
left behind while his mother sought work in the city of Port-au-Prince,
he survived primarily on breadfruit and the occasional rare fish
he caught with a string and bent hook.
As a child,
Rene fought, battled and overcame many seemingly insurmountable
challenges. During the days, he stayed on a dirt floor fanning flies
off his face. And at night he shooed away the mosquitoes.
So frail and
skinny, Rene often had to brace himself against trees when the strong
tropical winds blew in his village. At the age of six years old,
he was already climbing coconut and mango trees for survival.
Parasites were
eating him alive. Today Rene recalls the awful-tasting concoction
his great grandma often made for him. It was a mixture of kerosene
from the lamp that was supposed to kill the parasites. It did help.
But as soon as one generation of those parasites died, another would
surface.
Many of the
villagers predicted that Rene would not survive to be a man someday.
In fact, some of them told him directly. They constantly reminded
him of their false prophesy. As painful as their predictions were,
Rene continued to struggle.
Rene
Made Against The Odds
Determination,
faith, hope and the encouragement of an old lady in Rene's neighborhood
kept him going. He eventually left Haiti.
Unable to speak
English, Rene arrived in America with just five dollars, two shirts
and one pair of pants housed in a tattered briefcase. Where many
would see nothing but overwhelming odds stacked against them, he
saw an abundance of opportunity and a chance to create success.
A truly self-made
man, Rene summoned his keen survival skills and natural instincts
to pursue his ambitions. He worked menial jobs in Miami. He taught
himself English one word at a time. Soon he began to read voraciously.
He devoured every word on the pages of any book he could find. As
his knowledge increased, his quality of life improved.
Today, Rene
is living the American Dream! He is one of the most sought-after
speakers on the speaking circuit. Here are some highlights of Rene’s
